Franchise Power Rankings - 2024
Note: 2024 Expansion teams have been excluded from this list for this season. Also, this is just my opinion!
10. The Blue Waffles
The Blue Waffles are in the midst of their best season in franchise history. Unfortunately for the Waffles, it looks likely that by the end of the season they will be the only franchise on this list to not have a playoff appearance. The team appears to be trending in the right direction in terms of results, but many know that the Waffles failed to capitalize on their draft position this season. Before Jacob, Christian lead this franchise into utter darkness. It's very possible that we see this franchise finally reach the playoffs next season, but with the most losses in league history today, I must give the Waffles this spot.
9. Slat's Slimes
The Slimes have had a very tough season, which ultimately lands them here as they only have two years under their belt. The Slimes do have a playoff appearance and win to their name, which three teams on this list cannot say, but the difference between the Slimes and teams listed ahead of them is the lack of success this season. I think the Slimes will be well positioned next season to be in the playoff mix, and if they can make it and win a game, they should jump on this list.
8. Play Action Jackson
Play Action Jackson has a real argument for 10th place here, with one of the worst records in league history despite the very successful season this year. In fact, the only reason they aren't 9th is because they will very likely be a BYE in this playoffs, and if not, a likely 11 win team headed in. PAJ getting some extra playoff experience or bringing home a title would be huge for the team and its status all time in Super League.
7. PGH Crooners
The PGH Crooners have not been in Super League long, but it has been a very winning tenure so far. They just have tied their franchise record for wins, with 9 wins in each of the last two seasons, with room to improve on that record in these last two weeks. This puts them at 18-8 all time, which is the best winning percentage currently for any franchise. This team will also be two for two in terms of making the playoffs. A win or two would make things interesting for this list next season, especially with the three teams ranked above here.
6. Parma Pirates
The Pirates have been an above average franchise in Super League, just getting over the career .500 mark this season. The Pirates have followed a strict schedule of being dominant one season, then rebuilding the next. It looks like this mold could break in the coming year, as the Pirates still hold all of their draft picks despite being a top contender today. The Pirates did win the first ever Mickey Mouse Cup, which is technically hardware. Coming back and capturing the scoring title this season would be huge for the franchise as it would be the first franchise to have two, but the main thing missing here is playoff success. The Pirates have 2 appearances, but are 0-2 in those games. The Pirates adding a finals run this year would make them rise on the list.
5. PT Flea Flik-er
While it may be surprising for some to see PT Flea this high on the list, you must remember that this is an original franchise in the league. Jackson is the third owner of this squad already, and inherited a depleted roster from a mismanaged past. But on paper, this franchise has almost everything. Multiple playoff appearances, a finals appearance, a scoring title, and records including most points in a season, largest margin of victory in a matchup, most acquisitions in a season, and most points in a matchup. This is all amazing, but multiple owners and back-to-back rough seasons have clouded things. I think Jackson has a great chance to get the team back on the right track next season, and another playoff appearance would really add to the legacy this franchise has created.
4. Zark's Sharks
The fourth head on the current Super League Mt. Rushmore is a shark head. The Sharks are coming off their best season ever last year, with room to top it this year. This year is almost a carbon copy of last year, except there's no juggernaut Penguins team waiting for them. They are currently in the lead for the scoring title this year, which would put them as the only franchise with two. The thing that would really make a difference for the Sharks is some hardware at the end of the season.
3. The Bridge Road Orcas
The Orcas land at three, but it's a very good three. This team won the inaugural season of Super League, which automatically puts them a step ahead of any team that hasn't won. They are more than this one season though, as the Orcas have remained relevant in every playoff race in league history, with the team currently projected to make their third appearance this season. They are one of the most winning franchises in league history, with the most wins of any team, and second in winning percentage to Sacks in the City. This team once held the record for wins in a row before the Bud Ice Penguins took that honor from them last season. All in all, Jack and the Orcas are a legend in this league.
2. Washington Fantasy Team
Washington Fantasy Team was very close to being number one on this list for me. They are the only team in franchise history to make two different finals matchups. They came into the season as the only team to ever make the playoffs every season, and they have extended that record by clinching the playoffs this season as well. Say what you want about this team, but they always find a way to have a productive season. They are a master of the second pick window and have been one of the most affective GM's in the league each season. They currently sit at second on the all time wins list behind the Orcas. Another finals appearance or victory would put this team on top over the number 1 selection, but #2 in this league is still incredible. Add in the media contributions over the years, and WFT is an essential franchise to Super League.
1. Bud Ice Penguins
The Penguins are the most recent champion in league history, so this may be slight recency bias, but there's only one team that has a perfect season, and it's the Penguins. The Penguins are only a few games above .500 all time, which adds up given their tanking season in 2022 and their below .500 season this year. The Penguins don't have the playoff cache of WFT in my opinion, but their perfect season is impossible to ignore. The Penguins are the only team on this list that won the title in a league with more than 8 teams. Of course, someone will become the first to win with more than 10 teams this season, but this ranking is as of right now. The brothers hold three win related records in Super League, including continuous win streak at an unbreakable 19 straight wins. The Penguins hold this spot for now, but are in danger of losing it, especially if WFT has another nice playoff run. Noah and Nick are Super League hall of famers.
