Power Rankings: Week 2

It was so nice having football back. It seemed like the entire league was tuned in on Sunday and having a great time. Despite some bugs in the Sleeper app (anyone know Kenneth Walker's injury status???), I think this league is off to a great start this season. Unfortunately, not everyone can come away with a win in this league, and week 1 had some unexpected outcomes. Let's talk about it:
FAAB Challenge Week 2: Huge Swing
Challenge Requirements: Have the most expensive FAAB acquisition (prior to 9/12 TNF kickoff)
Who can win: One team.
Winners receive $5 FAAB (If a tie, $2 FAAB)
1. Zark's Sharks (➖)
The Sharks aren't going anywhere in the power rankings this week. The Sharks absolutely thumped the Pirates in the opener and would've beat the next highest scorer by 20. The roster is absolutely filthy. Josh Allen is such a damn ball hog but that just means fantasy points. There's really no weak link amongst the starters, even with a DK Metcalf bust performance. Godwin and Robinson on the bench proved that this team may have more than just an elite top line as well. The Sharks are right back where they were last season, on top of this list.
2. Bud Ice Penguins (📈+1)
It's actually kind of annoying that this team is right back in the title mix this season. The Penguins continue the longest winning streak in league history, putting the screws on newcomer Muff Punters. The entire roster looks like they can contribute and start if needed and when healthy. That last bit could be crucial, as multiple Penguins are already questionable for week 2, with Jake Ferguson especially unlikely to suit up next week. I really don't think this team will be the dominating force it was last season, with losses surely to come at some point, but all things considered, the Penguins have re-tooled back into a contender. The brothers working relationship is a thing of beauty.
3. Parma Pirates (📉-1)
The Pirates had a flop week by the standards laid before them, and yet they still would have taken care of several teams in the league. The Pirates were also notably without star WR Ja'Marr Chase, who was the bright spot in an otherwise abysmal Cincinnati offense on Sunday. Caleb Williams looked like he was playing his first game, and was worse than I thought, but I do believe in this roster in the long run (obviously). Jalen Hurts had several costly mistakes that need to be cleaned up, Addison left early with an ankle injury, and Buffalo let Kyler Murray cook more than they should have. Still, I think my squad is a contender unless they keep up the flops.
4. Sacks in the City (📈+3)
This team was my favorite roster coming in, and they just proved why last Sunday. Watch out Johnson division, Nathan is coming. This team is young, fun, and the team manager is a smooth operator. The intangibles are at an all time high, and the RBs didn't even pop off like they are almost certain to do in coming weeks. I'd like to see Nathan round out this team with some reliable depth, but I really enjoy this team's strategy and execution throughout their Super League tenure thus far.
5. The Bridge Road Orcas (📉-1)
Trying to evaluate the Orcas without CMC is like having a jelly sandwich with no peanut butter. I still feel the same about this team as I did preseason - Jack is a good manager and there's dawgs on this roster. I am sensing trouble at the WR position especially, as Drake London might be in contention for bust of the year with how the Falcons looked on Sunday, and Jaylen Waddle can't stay on the field to save his life. Dropping an early one to Nathan could be something to keep an eye on, as this division appears to be very solid. Still, I think some guys on this roster underperformed and with CMC in the mix, they're going to win games.
6. Play Action Jackson (➖)
Nothing really changed with the outlook of this team this week. Exactly what I said last week happened - the team brought out a mixed bag of talent, ranging from the electrifying Lamar Jackson, the elite Mike Evans, the aging Mark Andrews, and the meme Aaron Rodgers. That mixed bag was enough to beat up on a weaker divisional opponent. The thing about this team is that they're clearly such in a good position to make the playoffs, maybe an even better position than some teams ahead of them on this list. They gotta just avoid making bad decisions and they will certainly rise on this list. Nice start for them though.
7. Jacob's Team (📉-2)
One of the most embarrassing losses in league history caused a crack in this team's identity. I'm going to let a name change set in before I add it to this list, so lets go with Jacob's Team for now. All I can really say is this loss is karma for all of the indulgent trading that took place in the off-season. As bad as it was this week, surely they can't all flop like that again right? I think a bounce back is coming, but there are also legitimate roster concerns already. The super flex spot is going to be a struggle for this team until Cousins can get back into a rhythm. This team has 4 QB's and none of them looked stellar last week. If Jordan Mason can keep playing then Jacob may have got a steal there, but I still don't love the RB room long term. I think there's enough here to win games, but this is certainly not the spot Jacob wanted to be in coming into the season. All I can say for now is welcome to real Super League competition!
8. Slat's Slimes (➖)
The Slimes were the surprise of the week, putting a hurting on the PT Flea squad. Tyreek Hill is a CMC type fantasy engine and is the clear leader of this team. Jake Moody and Cooper Kupp combined for close to 50 which is a WTF. I gotta be honest, despite all of this, this roster is still a huge question mark to me. The RBs are as thin as it gets in this league. Nabbing Charbonnet was a solid move with Walker's injury history, but he might be the second best RB on this roster even with Walker healthy. This team proved they are in the divisional mix this week, but I need to see more before they can be bumped up on this list. Knocking off the Penguins would be major this week, but a solid start for the Slimes.
9. Muff Punters (➖)
10. PT Flea Flik-er (📈+1)
I said this last time, but PT Flea just has a floor that some other teams on this list do not. Is this team going to contend for the playoffs? Probably not. But they will win a couple games. Jackson seems to be a smart guy and I don't think he will get his lunch money taken in this league, but this team's future is more about next year than this year. Given some of the flops that happened this week, there's room for this team to stay around the 100-110 point range every week with the right bounce back production. It just goes to show you how deep the league is this year.
11. Washington Fantasy Team (📉-1)
Yes, this team won, but they weren't good by any means. They only won because the other team fell apart like crockpot chicken on the bone. On top of this, the once good reputation of manager Curtis has now come into question. He has now initiated two very questionable deals involving his keepers, resembling Carter Tracey early on in the season with his moves. I think this team is not tanking despite some calls that they are. The roster does have some solid name power, but that's really all it is right now. The St. Brown trade will haunt this team all season despite the flop from the superstar wideout in week 1 and the result vs Jacob. Still, this is Super League and this is Curtis. I'm not counting him out yet despite the horrible start and the dubious tactics at play right now.
12. GIRTH (➖)
This roster is by far the worst in the league to me. Way too many 0's on the board for GIRTH in the early going. I expect this team to hit the waivers and possibly be the team spending the most FAAB this week. With the position this team put themselves in this season, there's not really a way forward that leads to the playoffs. Better get the walking shoes ready now, the toilet bowl has a primary contender. The positive is the manager appears to be tapped in to the games and I do think this franchise has hope for next season.
