12. GIRTH (➖)
Honk shoooo. Meeemeeemee meee. Honk shooooo. MEeeem ememememe. It was a decent week for this team but another loss means I'm completely asleep. This team's chances at 0-14 just skyrocketed.
11. Muff Punters (📉-1)
It's sad to see the Punters in this spot, especially after another decent week. They are simply outgunned in this league. Again, I think this team will eventually win a couple games, but 0-5 earns this placement. This team should pivot to toilet bowl strategy and focus on building up additional long term assets, including additional draft picks when the window opens. Tyler is a great guy but this has been about the worst start imaginable for the Punters.
10. PT Flea Flik-er (📈+1)
PT Flea picked up their first win against divisional opponent GIRTH this week. That's enough for the rank rise as two 0-5 teams exist. This roster is really not good, and Jackson knows it. If Joe Flacco continues starting and continues this level of play, then maybe this team becomes a mild spoiler on some weeks. Despite the rise in rank and the win, there's little positive to say here roster wise. This is another team that should be pivoting to long term strategies. I can say one nice thing - I like Jackson's approach to his team despite the results so far this season.
9. Slat's Slimes (📉-2)
I jumped the gun on the Slimes a bit. I thought they were ready to take control of the Sharpe division, but PAJ dominated them from end to end. The Slimes simply don't have enough juice to do it this season. There's still an outside shot as the team sits at 2-3 and could possibly win a second matchup vs. PAJ, but the chances are getting lower. Fantasy Pros now gives them an 11% chance at the playoffs. In the Slimes short tenure in Super League so far, they have not operated a rebuild, which I would be very interested in seeing. If Sam get some draft picks out of this roster in November I think the trajectory of this franchise changes next season.
8. Washington Fantasy Team (📈+1)
Washington Fantasy Team is the cockroach that won't stop terrorizing your home despite many signs that the roach was dead. WFT has always risen to the occasion in meetings vs. stepbro Zach, but this just might be his best win against him ever. At a 2-3 record with a 2-1 record in the division, anything is now possible for this team. I've heard rumors of big moves coming, including a possible all-in approach when picks become tradable in November. This kind of a win can turn your season around, and WFT really did it. They move up a tier and actually have a chance now. They basically need to beat everyone is the struggle. Something that helps them is they have 3 straight games against the worst teams in the league, so they should come into week 9 with a 5-3 record if everything goes according to plan. One thing that could throw a wrench in this is the fact that WFT has a shot to make the Mickey Mouse final. All in all, these factors will justify a pushing in of the chips for team owner Curtis, which makes this team incredibly scary in the long run as well. If this team could find a way to win the Mickey Cup, they go from scary spoiler to straight up contenders possibly. Watch out because Curtis might just cook his way up this list yet again.
7. Bud Ice Penguins (📉-3)
Bud Ice is in a tough spot. A new streak has started, a losing streak. Co-owner Noah O'Reilly said that he's happy this is the case as the pressure is now off. This is pure cope, but if we take it at face value, I have to drop the Penguins. They currently are the last team in the Super League playoffs if the league ended today, and have now taken two consecutive losses in the division, dropping them to 1-2 on the season. They should get a bounce back week vs. PT Flea, but face a huge potential matchup in week 7 versus Play Action Jackson. Potential is the key word there, because Play Action Jackson are currently projected to be flexed into the Mickey Mouse Cup finals, which would change this team's game as well. Potential opponents would include Sacks in the City, Muff Punters, and Slat's Slimes. The Penguins should be rooting for WFT and PAJ to enter the Mickey Mouse final, as that would match the Penguins vs. Muff Punters, which could help their playoff odds significantly by adding an extra divisional win. It doesn't look like a divisional title will be in the cards for the Penguins, but they are still very much in the playoff mix despite the ranking. One swing factor to keep an eye on: Achane's health.
6. Sir, They Hit The Towers (📉-3)
This is another team with a surprising divisional record: 1-2. The Towers season has been a huge roller coaster: they entered the year as title favorites, dropped to the middle of the pack in this poll, then slowly worked their way up, all just to drop again. Two divisional close losses in a row have to sting, and it makes me wonder if team manager Jacob will start firing as I'm sure that trigger finger is getting itchy. I think this team has done a lot of things right this season, but they have come up short in the big games so far. This team should have a nice bounce back this week, facing the winless Muff Punters. They are also in the Mickey Mouse cup race, as despite the loss, they were 3rd on the week in scoring. If the team did make the finals for the Mickey cup, they would be in a must win situation. Their scheduled matchup in week 7 is against the Slimes, which would be favorable for the Towers going in. Assuming they have a huge week this week and make the MM finals, this assumed win would turn into a coin flip at best. A loss in the Mickey finals would hurt their playoff odds significantly. A win in that game however would skyrocket their odds, as getting the universal tiebreaker would be huge for this team. These next few weeks are now crucial for a team once thought to be leading the pack.
5. Play Action Jackson (📈+3)
There's still no glaze happening here, but there is credit. Play Action Jackson won the type of game this franchise never wins: a must win. Last year, PAJ was a competent team that came up short against elite teams. This year, they may just be an elite team. There are currently five teams sitting at 4-1, and I have them ranked last of those teams, but if you were ranking teams based on playoff odds, they're #1. This team will make the playoffs, it's a lock. I've said a lot about their Jets strategy, which I still don't like, but it actually paid off in this game. If Garrett Wilson can keep production up, this team is fully in contender land. That's a huge if though, as a Davante Adams trade appears imminent. This has been a huge season for PAJ so far and I believe in this team a lot more than I did in the week 1 poll. This team has a great chance to make the Mickey Mouse cup, which winning that would be a huge luxury. Since this team is a playoff lock, the tiebreaker advantage would only be used to get a higher seed. I like what I'm seeing from this team right now.
4. The Bridge Road Orcas (📈+2)
Eventually you have to give in to what your eyes are showing you, and that is the fact that the Orcas stand at 4-1, without their best player. Even better for the Orcas, they've done it against divisional opponents and Sharpe division's clear best team, PAJ. This team quietly has the longest winning streak in the league now, winners of four straight. It looks like that they have two very winnable games coming up as well, so this team could jump to the front of the line in the division sooner than later. With Nico Collins set to miss time, Tank Dell could find his consistent connection with CJ Stroud again. Drake London looks like a keeper right now, and Brock Bowers isn't far behind him. There's a lot to like with this team, and if CMC were to return any time soon, the league should be scared.
3. Parma Pirates (📈+2)
The Pirates exploded when no one expected it. Last week, I was ready to waive the white flag in the divisional race. This week, I'm tied at number one in that race and could gain the edge if a trip to the Mickey Mouse finals is in the cards. The QBs really showed out this week, with the tape matching the performance for both guys. Daniel Jones may be a real starter going forward, which is shocking. Ja'Marr Chase has been rock solid so far, and has clearly been worth it over Breece Hall. Even better, AJ Brown is coming back, which should get Hurts going as well. There's a lot of stuff trending in the right direction for the Pirates. They need to beat the Sharks next time they play to really cement them on top of this division.
2. Sacks in the City (➖)
Sacks in the City has been the definition of consistency this season. What was considered a young fun group on week 1 has developed into a real title contender in week 6. They shut out divisional opponent BIP to take over the division, for now. The Orcas have been surprising, and they look to keep winning. Sacks in the City faces its biggest test yet this week, Zark's Sharks. A win in a game like this propels a team to number one in the polls. I do love the quiet (and free!) addition of Tyrone Tracy this week, as he also rosters Singletary. There's a lot I could repeat about this team that I've said in previous weeks, but I'll leave it at this: this manager just gets it. Fantasy Pros gives this team a 96% chance at the playoffs, but it's 100% in my opinion.
1. Zark's Sharks (➖)
The Sharks lose a shocking game to step-brother run WFT, which brings the first sign of weakness on the season for the Sharks. I would equate this matchup to the backyard brawl - it doesn't really matter the rankings or predictions going in, as anyone can truly win due to the will to win versus family. The Sharks would need a mega week to make the Mickey Cup at this point, and divisional opponent Parma Pirates look to make the finals, which could hand them the keys to the division. This was a really bad loss for the Sharks, but when your really bad week is 120 points, that's pretty damn good. I'm not overreacting, but this team immediately faces a huge test in week 6 as they face Sacks in the City. This spot is up for grabs in that matchup, but I don't see this team dropping below 3 at all this season.
