Power Rankings: Week 5

It was a huge week in Super League with huge implications on the rest of the season. The streak is officially over, divisional matchups lived up to expectations, and the in season tournament is here. There's a lot of FAAB available to be won these next couple weeks. Let's dive in:

The Mickey Mouse Cup Begins Now!
The next three weeks in Super League will be an experiment: an in-season tournament. The games count towards your record, and the objective is the same as always - score the most points. The two combined highest scorers across the first two weeks will be flexed-in on week 7 and face each other in what could be a Championship preview. The winner there will take home:
$15 (must make playoffs)
$15 FAAB
The Ultimate Tiebreaker
Mickey Mouse Cup Trophy
FAAB Challenge Week 5: Mickey's Wrath
Challenge Requirements: Defeat your rival by 20+ points
Who can win: Up to 6 teams

12. GIRTH (➖)
Another week, another L. There's really nothing new to say here, so I'll just focus on next week, which is a surprisingly winnable matchup. PT Flea comes to town in a battle of 0-4 teams. The loser of that game will be headed towards a very dark future where 0-14 is in play. There's FAAB on the line for the winner of the game, so I would think both teams would want to win. It's a Mickey Mouse Cup game, so maybe there's a little hatred on the field between the two teams. Team GIRTH needs a win badly.
11. PT Flea Flik-er (➖)
PT Flea Flik-er is in the same spot as team GIRTH. 0-4, and if you lose this week, you are headed towards horrible history. A win feels a little more believable from PT Flea Flik-er, which is the only reason they are number 11 on this list. Both teams should be much better next season but this season has lowered the floor on what bad can look like in this league. Moves will need to be made to maximize value headed into the next season.
10. Muff Punters (📉-1)
The Muff Punters are clearly a step ahead of GIRTH and PT Flea, dropping a bounce back week with a lot of style. Unfortunately for the Punters, it was too little, as they ran straight into the red hot Sack's in the City. At some point, you have to drop the team based on the record and season outlook even if I think they're a little better than that record shows. With Jordan Love back in the mix, I really do believe this team can win some games, maybe even this week against divisional rival the Orcas. One worry is the start/sit % - a league worst. If this team is going to keep losing, at least they have the best young core out of these bottom teams.
9. Washington Fantasy Team (📈+1)
Despite the loss, I had to move Fantasy Team up a spot due to having a win when the Punters don't. The outlook is pretty much the same for the Fantasy Team, with the added recent twist of Malik Nabers. It was clear Curtis no longer valued Dak Prescott as he already tried to deal him. He ended up getting a much better prospect for Dak than the original trade, getting Nabers who looks elite. This is a step in the right direction in my opinion, but I have heard rumors of this squad shopping franchise RB Jonathan Taylor, which I believe would be a huge mistake. The focus now shifts to the toilet bowl for Fantasy Team as the division looks unwinnable.
8. Play Action Jackson (📉-1)
Play Action Jackson moves to 3-1, but I don't trust this team as much in the division as I once did. The fact is, this team would be 2-2 against Slat's Slimes if they faced every week, and now play them this week in a pivotal spot. I think the team owners will be furious with this placement, but this franchise hasn't won a huge game in a long time. They've beaten up on the worst teams in the league so far, and lost to the only team in the playoff mix. This week is a big test, as they must defeat the Slat's Slimes. I don't love the whole Jets angle this team is relying on this year. Why base your fantasy team on your real life shitty one? The more I see the Slimes produce, the more I think trouble is brewing in this division. I do think this team is in the mix to win the Mickey Mouse Cup though. Head to head record vs the Slimes will be the most important factor for this team at the end of the year.
7. Slat's Slimes (📈+1)
What a week for this team. The Slimes needed to pick up a win against a (so far) permanent #12 fixture on this list, and they did that and more. Unfortunately, that scoring outburst could have been better used against a more meaningful opponent, but it was still impressive as hell. This is a sneaky QB pairing. The only worry there is that one of them gets hurt. This team faces a must win week against Play Action Jackson. Wins will be hard to come by outside of the division. Winning here would complete the narrative flip that the Slimes are a playoff contender.
6. The Bridge Road Orcas (➖)
That has to be one of the most satisfying wins in league history. The Orcas end the streak, handing the BIP brothers their first loss since joining forces in Super League. The Orcas now are the only team to have beaten the Penguins and Play Action Jackson this year. 3-1 is a dream start for this team, and they seriously improve their chances at making the playoffs. The only problem with that is someone from the Sharpe Division has to make the playoffs. This team is a straight up title contender when (if?) CMC returns, but for now, it's still hard to rank them super high in a dead even heat in a tough division. Taking care of the Muff Punters this week would be huge. Teams in this division especially could benefit from winning the Mickey Mouse Cup, but none more than the Orcas. They need to continue this scoring output for a couple more weeks.
5. Parma Pirates (📉-1)
The Pirates are off to a 3-1 start despite AJ Brown only playing in the loss of the four games. This team is becoming a bit of a roller coaster. The QB play has not been good in any way. Caleb Williams was a missed pick, and Jayden Daniels was right there. They enter the week facing rival the Towers, who looks to take the divisional lead over the Pirates. This is a huge week for the team that entered the season as a top contender. It feels like a big step back in expectations may be needed here.
4. Bud Ice Penguins (📉-1)
Well, it's over. The Penguins finally lost. I could say I saw it coming, but I've predicted a Penguins loss many times before. It actually happened. Even worse news - a huge gamble on Rashee Rice instantly busts as Bud Ice Penguins own Patrick Mahomes dives at Rice's knees, possibly tearing his ACL. Even worse, this team has to go up against another divisional opponent who has been rolling. Last week was only one loss, but it could have fucked their chances at winning the division if coupled with a loss this week. Still, the Penguins have guys, they have brains, and they have guts. That's more than a lot of these teams can say. If they lose this week, expect a huge drop, but for now I'm not panicking.
3. Sir, They Hit The Towers (📈+2)
This team is slowly moving up the ranks. They had a huge week, but also got blown out. Some talk has been had about who won the Justin Jefferson trade, and this week proved that this team lost it. However, that was a single trade, and the folks inside The Towers have cooked up something diabolical - trading its best draft pick in Malik Nabers for Dak Prescott. Nabers was the WR2 on the season as a rookie, and yet, I see why Jacob is doing it. It's not known if Nabers will continue having this kind of a season once tape gets out on him. Rookies are bound to struggle eventually (right?). QB play has haunted this team this season, with Kirk Cousins not delivering results, and Jared Goff finally breaking through for the first time in week 4. The logic is there, and I don't anticipate the scoring output dipping too much as there are some guys on the bench that seem playable. The Towers can take it to the next level by beating the Pirates this week, and could look to be a contender in the Mickey Mouse Cup.
2. Sacks in the City (➖)
Another huge week from franchise cornerstones Jayden Daniels and Derrick Henry. It was also just a massive performance up and down this roster. Sacks in the City looks like the top dog in the Johnson division right now, on and off the field. This team got 50 points from players traded away from the Bud Ice Penguins this week. Nathan fleeced Noah and Nick before the injury to Rice ever happened. This team is a legit title contender and could look to contend in the Mickey Mouse Cup in the coming weeks. Bijan Robinson has been relatively quiet, which also means that this team could have another level if Atlanta were to give the kid more than seven damn carries. Cleaning up the BIP this week would be a major step towards winning the division. A+ work from the Sacks.
1. Zark's Sharks (➖)
The Sharks are in a tier of their own right now. This is the best Sharks team we've seen yet in this league. The starting lineup is out of this world. It's unprecedented that a team stay in the top spot on this poll for the entire opening portion of the season, but I don't think this spot will be touched for a long while. This team has won the most challenges, scored the most points, won the most games, and they look to keep doing all those things. A winnable game against team manager Zach's step bro should bring this team to 5-0. Not that they need the advantages, but they certainly look like the favorite to take home the Mickey Mouse Cup as well. Unreal start for the Sharks.
