Power Rankings: Week 8

What a terrible week for injuries. Chaos ruled week 7, leaving multiple teams with more questions than answers. The Mickey Mouse Cup has a champion, and a couple of teams had huge weeks. Let's jump into it:

Historically Bad
12. GIRTH (➖)
Another week, another loss. They failed to break 100 yet again, but at least they scored more than 3 teams this week. I'm starting to think that this team will eventually win a game or two this year. Puka is back at practice, which could change everything for this team. There's not a ton to say about a winless team at this point in the year. The worst start in league history continues.
In the Toilet
11. Slat's Slimes (➖)
Slimes, slimes, slimes. What do I even say? More performances like this and we might be looking at the Truly tier. In fact, GIRTH would be 3-0 against the Slimes in the last 3 weeks. Unbelievably bad stretch for a team who deserves more. Life after Justin Fields may prove to be disastrous for the Slimes. There's some injured players here, but most of the team is healthy. This is not good. If this continues, I don't even see many tradeable pieces coming from this team.
10. PT Flea Flik-er (📉-1)
The win streak is over. It was fun while it lasted. While this team isn't as bad as originally thought, they're still pretty bad as they continue this rebuilding season. If they could play spoiler to WFT this week, that would change the narrative around the team. For now they are merely waiting for the pick window to open up. One concern I have with this team is that the keepers are really not delivering right now. LaPorta, Samuel, and Tua have all had terrible fantasy starts for various reasons. This team is still headed to the toilet bowl, but would not be my current favorite to lose it all.
9. Muff Punters (📈+1)
The Punters move up despite the horrendous start. That's mainly due to the consistency of the team versus the ones below. It hasn't been a good season by any means but the toilet bowl doesn't appear to be a huge concern for this team, especially if they can win some remaining games. There's not a ton to comment on here as this team hasn't done much, and their young roster is building towards the future.
Buy or Sell?
8. Bud Ice Penguins (📉-1)
What a disastrous season for the Penguins. I went from hoping this team would lose to just feeling bad for them. Not only did they lose to PAJ this week, extending the losing streak to four, but they lost another key piece for the rest of the year as Brandon Aiyuk goes down. Barkley and Thomas Jr have been huge positive points for Noah and Nick, but the rest of the roster has been hot and cold. Achane is a huge X factor going forward, and big production will be needed every week. Ultimately, this team may not sell but I think they should. With the top five solidified, including two teams in his division, the road to the playoffs is fading quickly. The Penguins, Blue Waffles, and WFT are all chasing that last spot currently, but I think this week clearly puts BIP at the end of that list.
7. The Blue Waffles (📈+1)
This team exploded this week, winning by a staggering 83 points vs. the Slimes. A win was much needed, but the Waffles are simply unpredictable. They would have liked to have had this outburst against a team that can change the playoff race, as the road to the playoffs is looking dubious right now. The Waffles now head into their next two matchups against the leaders of the Johnson and Sharpe divisions, the Orcas and PAJ respectively. Even if this team comes out the other side 1-1, they'd still be below .500 and the best case scenario is they'd be tied with WFT, which they currently cede the tiebreaker. Beating WFT in week 12 will be a major key, but honestly, should this team consider selling? They have some major pieces to move if they wish, and they are without key draft picks, so they could potentially get back a lot of that value. Pushing in more chips could be a disaster for this team, but it does feel like where this is ultimately headed.
Washington Fantasy Team
6. Washington Fantasy Team (➖)
WFT controls their own destiny now, already catching the 6th seed. They should get another chance to win this week vs. PT Flea, before picks open up next Friday. WFT looked like they might drop one to Tyler this week, but managed to win a close one late. The thing that sets this team apart going forward is their amount of ammo and their willingness to use it. Divisional rival Waffles specifically won't be able to match Curtis' moves without some major creativity. Curtis doesn't move up but he moves up a tier as the vibes and intangibles grow.
Title Contenders
5. The Bridge Road Orcas (📉-1)
This drop is not warranted at all, but it's Super League. The Orcas had a fine week, continuing their win streak. They took over the Johnson division this week, as Nathan's squad lost in the Mickey Mouse Cup Finals. The Orcas do not hold the tiebreaker over Sacks, so they will need to keep winning to keep the lead. They currently are tied with the Pirates for the league best record, and yet they move down? The top five of this league is stupidly strong right now, with each team feeling like a playoff lock, and each having a real argument at why they're a title threat. The Orcas just seem like the least threatening of the 5 on paper to me, and the most risk averse historically. One man can change that: CMC. For now, I do love what I'm seeing despite the drop.
4. Play Action Jackson (📈+1)
PAJ exploded this week, dropping the highest total of the week. The duo buried the struggling Bud Ice Penguins by 40+. When Lamar plays like this, they are very hard to beat. Kenneth Walker is automatic right now, Mark Andrews had a bounce back week, Josh Jacobs made history, and Tee Higgins was productive. Everything went right for PAJ this week. The ceiling for this team is really high, which is why I had to move them above the Orcas despite the Orcas having the better record. They now hold a commanding lead over their division and will coast to the playoffs, now in the mix to earn a BYE.
3. Zark's Sharks (➖)
The Sharks blew out PT Flea this week, but disaster struck. It appears Chris Godwin will miss the remainder of the regular season, and to make matters worse, DK Metcalf also got hurt. Devonta and DK are good enough to hold down the main WR starting spots, but something tells me the Sharks are going to be making a move to reinforce the WR position [note: I wrote that before the Cooper trade]. For a team who just suffered a tremendous loss, things could be a lot worse. They still have the premier QB duo in the league, a budding superstar in Gibbs, Tank just might take over that JAX backfield, and Brian Robinson looks like an actual tank. They took a huge hit to the depth of the team but there's still a lot of good here. No movement for now, but I think the floor is a bit lower than it was last week.
2. Sacks in the City (📉-1)
This team fell short this week, but a ton of bad luck was had. Jayden Daniels exited the game early and didn't return, but he appears to be ok, but may miss time. Flowers and Douglas both also left their games early, which contributed to the less than stellar result in the Mickey Cup. I'm not worried about this team at all despite this week. The three RB keepers combined for an insane 66.1 points this week, and they are truly the engine of this team. This team has all of their picks if they wanted to make this situation even better, or to sure up the QB spot if a significant absence is announced for Daniels. I think this team is locked in to the playoffs and while they are now down a game in the division, I think they are the team to beat in the Johnson division.
1. Parma Pirates (📈+1)
There's a new number one for the second week in a row, with the Pirates taking the lead in the standings and in this poll after bringing home the Mickey Mouse Cup. They take a 2 game lead over the Sharks, and can't lose the tiebreaker now that they have the Ultimate Tiebreaker. They didn't have the biggest week here but they still managed to get it done versus number two on this list. Both starting QBs now have their BYE games out of the way for the rest of the run, as well as AJ Brown. The Pirates are now the team to beat in my opinion as they continue the longest active win streak.
